Overview
Palermo is an ancient charming city, melting pot of different cultures, which have left visible traces in its urban plan and monuments, and in the language, cuisine and identity of its inhabitants. Exploring it thoroughly and getting to know each of its famous or neglected corners would require a few days' stay and long walks, to discover spots, smells and sounds a travelguide or a quick panoramic tour wouldn't allow you to notice. We suggest you to stay in the town centre, and avoid lengthy transfers by car and the well-known traffic jam (do you remember the movie "Johnny Stecchino"? "Palermo's third curse is... traffic jam... head-spinning, tentacular...". Ironic and restrictive remark, but undoubltedly true!). Nothing better, therefore, than a luxury apartment in a historical aristocratic apartment, simultaneoulsy allowing you to breathe the special atmosphere of a long-time past age. If this idea tickles you, we have a lovely jewel-box for you in the heart of Palermo historical centre, Palazzo Arone.
Property details
Palazzo Arone is a beautiful apartment within an ancient palace belonging to a noble Sicilian family. It was built at the end of XVII century on the foundations of a pre-existent Medieval mansion in the heart of the historic centre of Palermo. In 1769 the palace hosted the "Circolo di Conversazione della Nobiltà" (an exclusive club where aristocrats used to talk about different matters), celebrated by an outstanding Sicilian historian, the Marquis of Villabianca, for its beautifully decorated rooms. Its guests may still admire its wooden coffered ceilings with painted flowers and landscapes, and the halls decorated with fine Biblical frescoes.
The apartment consists of 4 double bedrooms with en-suite bathroom and 2 stylish halls. All bedrooms are furnished with antique family furniture, and equipped with TV, heating and air conditioning.
Breakfast is included in the price, and can be served in your own room, if you wish.
Area details
Palazzo Arone is located in the most ancient town quarter, the Cassaro. On the same street you'll find the Modern Art Gallery and the Contemporary Art Gallery, while the major town monuments and museums are only a few yards away. The area is also crowded with all kinds of shops, sandwich bars, grill-rooms, ice-cream and pastry makers, bars, pubs and night clubs for all tastes. The Central railway Station is at 10min walking distance, and from there trains and regional buses towards urban and suburban destinations leave. Therefore, if you wish to reach Mondello beach, or have a trip to Monreale - to visit its amazing Cathedral - Cefalù or Trapani - to walk among the streets of their pretty historical centres - Segesta - to visit the suggestive Doric Temple and the splendid still working ancient Theatre - Erice - to experiment the fascination of an old medieval village - Bagheria - to see its gorgeous Baroque villas - you just have to get there and choose where to go!
Additional Information
Palazzo Arone has welcomed several distinguished visitors such as Gérard Depardieu and Robert Gervaso. The owners can provide their guests with laundry and/or cooking service on request.
