Overview
Ragusa is one of the major town in the South-Eastern district of Sicilian Baroque, recently included in the list of World Heritage Sites by Unesco. Its lovely historical centre is literally crowded of precious monuments - both aristocratic mansions and religious buildings - dating back mostly to late 17th and 18th century, but also to earlier and later times. Its characteristic terraced urban plan give it a markedly picturesque looking, like a sort of stone Christmas crib. Locanda Don Serafino is located in the very heart of Ragusa Ibla, and it's a little jewel in itself, with its stone walls and mysterious atmosphere. Staying here you'll have the chance to explore every single known and neglected corner of Ragusa, start an exciting tour through South-Eastern Baroque district and, in the meanwhile, enjoy the sweet rural countryside marking this area of Sicily, and get a glimpse of the gorgeous sandy beaches of the coast in the distance, a real natural treasure you'll be tempted to discover.
Property details
Locanda Don Serafino is a very special place. It is located in a beautiful rustic-looking 19th century building, all covered with stone slates. Stones are ubiquitous here, on walls and arches, in rooms and bathrooms, on floors and even decorations. All halls and lounges are finely furnished in modern style and decorated with early 20th-century art objects. The atmosphere you breathe here is almost magical and a bit mysterious too ... You keep on wondering why all rooms seem to be digged in the rock and look like those underground places where Secret Societies Brethrens met in the 19th century... What a great charm you can feel everywhere! All the 10 bedrooms have handicrafted furniture, minibar, Satellite TV, direct dial phone and safecase. Beds have first quality mattresses and two kinds of pillows, of different softness. Bathrooms come with towels sets, slippers, bathrobes and hairdryer, and a few of them look digged in rock as the rooms! The Junior Suites are more spacious and have comfortable sofas.
The hotel can offer you the highly refined cuisine of the homonymous Restaurant - a few yards away - which can be surely listed among the best Italian restaurants, thanks to its really amazing location (it was the former stone stable of an ancient noble mansion), its absolutely delicious cuisine, and enormous variety of wines (about 1000!) and olive oils. The restaurant also works as Wine-Bar and American Bar, and boasts an exclusive Cigar List.
Area details
You cannot but explore Ragusa, but we also suggest you a visit to Modica and Scicli - a few kms away - and Noto, in the province of Syracuse - known as "The Stone Garden". Art and charm will fill up your eyes and leave an unforgettable memory in your mind. The coast of Ragusa province deserves a visit as well, with its endless sandy beaches. At a short distance there is also Kamarina Museum and Archaeological Site, a major Greek colony in this area. You could also have a stop at Pino d'Aleppo Nature Reserve, to enjoy a spectacular view of Ragusa countryside - with its wide pastures, lovely farms and characteristic low dry-stone walls - from the privileged position of a protected area.
Additional Information
During the summer, Locanda Don Serafino reserves a fully equipped lido for his guests. The Lido Azzurro is located on a private sandy beach 20 kms away from the hotel, and it boasts a pretty bar and a restaurant renowned for a special fish soup. The chef has been preparing it the same way, following a secret recipe, in the last 50 years!
