Villa Bianca just outside Scopello was a great base from which to explore the NW tip of Sicily (hire car needed). From here it was easy to reach the wild, wild nature reserve of Lo Zingaro, the beautiful walled mediaeval town of Erice, the Greek temple sites of Segesta and Selinunte, Sciacca, the totally stunning cathedral of Monreale, Palermo, Trapani and Marsala - enough for a 9 day vacation.
The villa was extremely spacious, comfortable, very clean and with everything you need for self catering. As we arrived on a Sunday, the welcome pack was as its name suggests, very welcome! Even though it was October, we still needed the aircon as it was un-seasonally warm - this worked very well. Mrs Carmen who met us and was our local representative was charming and very helpful.
Scopello is also a bewitching little village with fabulous views of the Tonnara from the restaurant balconies on the hillside.
Our favorite time of the day was twilight, sitting on the open terrace watching the twinkling lights of the fishing boats switching on all around the bay, and listening to the changing of the bird guard. The hawks, magpies and warblers were replaced by large flocks of seabirds indulging in some late afternoon fishing and then handing over to the tawny and little owls for their night-time hunting and calling. Throw in an occasional dog bark somewhere miles away, frogs and crickets and you had the perfect Mediterranean evening chorus.
Thanks to Danuta in the SoloSicily office - our initial contact - who suggested this magical location. The info packs and office admin worked very smoothly and on the occasion where we had some observations to make, the Customer Care team listened and responded positively.
The access road to the villa is an adventure and we would recommend you take hire cars that sit slightly higher off the road if you visit this villa!
SoloSicily we give you 8/10.
