Olive Oil

Sicily is the third region in Italy for production of olive oil, and can boast six DOP (Protected Designation of Origin) districts: Val di Mazzara, between Palermo and Agrigento, with centres in Partinico, Caltabellotta and Ribera; Valli Trapanesi, from Erice to Castellammare del Golfo; Valle del Belice - with its “Nocellara” variety - in the hinterland of Mazzara del Vallo, with Campobello, Castelvetrano and Partanna; Valdemone, from Nebrodi Mountains to Madonie Mountains, with Reitano and Mistretta; Mount Etna, between Catania and Messina, especially in the Alcantara Valley; Iblei Mountains, between Ragusa and Syracuse, with Chiaramonte Gulfi, Còmiso, Ispica and Mòdica.
