Overview

At one time, long ago, villa Nabila was a winery. This spacious villa is situated in the village of Milo, amidst the vine-covered slopes of Mt. Etna. This is authentic Sicily: the villa is brimming with character, in a lovely rural setting and with striking sea views. This is a great choice for anyone looking for peaceful afternoons lazing by the pool, but also perfect for adventure-seekers looking to discover the delights of Sicily's Ionian coast and ideally-placed for day trips to some of Sicily's best beaches.

Property

Outside: Plants, shrubs, a lemon tree and tumbling roses fill Nabila’s gardens with colour and scent, overlooked by a fabulous wide wrap-around terrace that has several seating areas and a superb, unobstructed view of the sea. The pool area, which is surrounded by paving and dotted with sun beds and umbrellas, is in the lovely lower garden, accessed by a flight of terracotta stone steps. Close to the pool, a pretty grassy area, with plenty of shade, a barbecue and a large table and chairs, provides the perfect spot for al fresco lunches. There is ample parking space within the villa grounds.

Inside: Timeless in appearance and unmistakeably Sicilian, Nabila is set on two floors, with thick stone walls, arched doorways and, inside, traditional furniture. On the ground floor, you enter the property via the sitting/dining area which is tastefully decorated with wooden wall hangings and attractive Sicilian ceramics. This ground floor, now restructured, was once the house of the farmers who worked in the winery. From here, there is access to a large double bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a small kitchen with a wood-burning pizza oven.

An external stone staircase leads to the main part of the house on the upper floor. A large balcony encircles much of the villa on this level, providing remarkable sea views. To one end of the balcony is an outdoor living and dining area, with a dining-table and a smaller coffee table and chairs. Inside, there are three bedrooms on this level - the master bedroom, with en-suite bathroom and walk-in closet, a double bedroom and a twin with en-suite bathroom. The villa’s main kitchen is well-equipped and beautifully decorated with original Sicilian ceramic tiling on the floor and walls. Another bathroom, a dining-room and two sitting rooms, one with a grand piano, ensure that the villa provides ample living space for large families.

Local Sights

Nabila is found in Milo, on the slopes of Mount Etna. This lovely town has all that you could need, including some fantastic restaurants and a lively local community. The town is built using the black lava stone for which this volcanic area is so well known.

Mount Etna is certainly the most dominating aspect of the surrounding countryside and is an unforgettable sight. Visible throughout east Sicily, Etna lends the area a truly magical atmosphere.

The villa is in the ideal location to explore all of the great sights in east Sicily. Nabila is a short drive to lively Catania and stylish Taormina. Both of these towns are wonderful places to visit. You will find shops, restaurants, fun bars and a range of architectural and archaeological sights in both these towns.

The nearest beaches are only a 20 minute drive away and are perfect for a fun-filled day at the seaside. The Riviera dei Ciclopi is a wonderful stretch of coast near Acireale where many locals pass the time during the summer days. The water is beautifully clear and the area is known for the interesting basalt islands that jut out from the water. Surrounding these small islands there is a wealth of marine life to discover; it's a wonderful place to go snorkelling!

Nature enthusiasts will be delighted by the Alcantara Gorges, which are only about 1.5 hours from the villa. The river Alcantara runs through spectacular basalt gorges creating a wonderful setting to go hiking, to have a swim, or just to enjoy the beautiful views.

For splendid architecture and a wealth of history then make your way to beautiful Siracusa. Once one of the most powerful cities in the Mediterranean, Siracusa is now a wonderful town to visit for anyone with an interest in Sicily's fascinating past. Don't miss the centro storico - Ortigia - with its atmospheric streets and lovely views, or the wonderful Greek theatre, found it the great archaeology park.

Local Experiences

The fertile soil of Mount Etna make this area of Sicily perfect for growing vines and producing excellent wines. Visit a winery or two on one of our guided wine tours - you will even get to have a taste!

There are so many ways to explore and enjoy the Mount Etna. You could hike to the summit, or go on a bike tour of some of the beautiful tracks. Enjoy a sunset with a view after a jeep safari up the slopes, or go skiing in the winter. We can help organise a range of exciting tours on and around Mount Etna.

We also offer guided tours of local towns and cities. Why not spend a day seeing the wonderful array of sights in Catania and Taormina. Visit bustling markets in Catania and then relax and enjoy a gelato in super-chic Taormina.

Taormina is also a wonderful destination for those with an interest in water sports or boat trips. There are many companies that rent water sports equipment or who offer lessons. Why not have a go a kayaking or diving? If that sounds like too much effort then boat trips and excursions can also be organised, during which you can get to known Sicily's fabulous coast from the sea.

If staying at home is more your sort of thing then you can still enjoy the wonderful taste of Sicily with our Book a Cook service. You can enjoy a wonderful relaxed evening with some great local food made just for you.

Nabila is very fortunate to have a great restaurant just a few minutes away from its front door. The 4 Archi is a very well-respected restaurant which you have to try during your stay at Nabila. The food is spectacular!

Extras

The pool is open to guests from March 30th to October 27th.
Outside of this period the pool can be opened on request with no additional costs.
