Olive Oil

Sicily is the third region in Italy for production of olive oil and boasts six DOP (Protested Designation of Origin) varieties of olive oil: Val di Mazzara, between Palermo and Agrigento, with centres in Partinico, Caltabellotta e Ribera; Valli Trapanesi, from Erice to Castellammare del Golfo; Valle del Belice - with the Nocellara variety - in the interiors of Mazzara del Vallo, with Campobello, Castelvetrano and Partanna; Valdemone, from the Nebrodi Mountains to the Madonie Mountains, with Reitano and Ristretta; the Mount Etna, between Catania and Messina, particularly renowned the Valley of Alcantara; the Iblei Mountains, between Ragusa and Syracuse, with Chiaramonte Gulfi, Còmiso, Ispica and Mòdica.
