soloGuide to Sicily: Mediterranean Coast & Interior

Intro

Mediterranean Coast & InteriorThe most rural of Sicily’s coastlines, the south of the island is full of perplexing juxtapositions. Undulating fields, distinctive hilltop towns and Sicily’s biggest and best sandy beaches vie with acres of brutal modern development - ugly petrochemical plants mar Agrigento’s lovely beach and are responsible for Gela’s industrial wasteland. Likewise, the Mediterranean Coast is the location of Sicily’s busiest and most famous classical site, the Valley of the Temples; however, beyond this the province is strangely bereft of tourists.

Despite being the birthplace of some of Sicily’s most famous intellectuals, including Greek philosopher and physiologist Empedocles, writer Pirandello and novelist Leonardo Sciascia, the population of the Mediterranean Coast is hardly trying to get rid of local Mafia.

We suggest to visit this region as nowhere you will brief, taste and touch the ‘sicilianity’, the authentic Sicily from inside, like in the Mediterranean Coast.
