Tyrrhenian Coast

San Vito Lo Capo beach lies on the northernmost tip of the province of Trapani. Ample facilities and a splendid seabed, made of shells fragments and bathed by light green water, make it one of the favorite tourist destinations in Sicily.

Zingaro Natural Reserve boasts a pristine and wild scenery as well as a splendid sea. In the surroundings you can find Scopello, a pretty village famous for its Tonnara (tuna fish factory) and its charming high sea-rocks. The coastline is 7 km long and marked by rugged cliffs descending sheer into the sea, only interrupted by small coves of crystal turquoise water. Its beautiful little bays - Cala Disa, Cala del Varo, Cala Marinella - can be reached walking on several paths The most renowned and equipped with ample facilities is Tonnarella Beach .

The stretch of water and coast between Capo Gallo and Isola delle Femmine (Palermo) has been recently established Marine Reserve (2002). The rocky seabed hosts meadows of Poseidonia oceanica and red gorgonians, where lobsters and dusky perches find their shelter. Orlata delle Corvine (30 mt deep) is the ideal spot to snorkel, but is allowed only to expert skin divers.

Mondello Beach , 10 km from Palermo's downtown, is Palermitans' favorite spot to psend their holidays. It was particularly renowned in the early twentieth century. Further eastward, the maritime town of Cefalù is framed by long sandy beaches and overlooked by the impressive Norman Cathedral. In its surroundings, Mazzaforno beach is a very renowned seaside resort fr holidays and a landing place since the Roman Empire.

The coast near Capo d'Orlando is rich in inlets, ravines and small bays. Testa di Monaco and San Gregorio's long sandy beaches are worth a stopover. The former can be reached following a trail unfolding through a citrus fruits grove, the latter encompasses a tiny marine lake. Last but not least, Tindari owes its fame to its shingle beach stretching underneath the promontory where the Sanctuary of the miraculous Black Madonna rises. In this charming spot are seven tiny salt lakes, surrounded by a long strip of sand moulded by maritime streams, changing shapes and sizes according to the tides.
