Intro

Ibn Jubair, experienced Arabic traveler in the XIII century; Giovanni d'Austria, who stopped in Messina before leading the successful battle of Lepanto against the Turkish; Goethe, who visited the island “where lemon trees blossom”. Those are only three of the innumerable illustrious men who described their exciting journey through Sicily.

Sicilian coasts and the beaches indeed deserve those praises. They overlook three different seas: the Tyrrhenian Sea from Messina to Trapani, the Mediterranea Sea from Trapani to Capo Passero, and the Ionian Sea from Capo Passero to Messina. Around the island rise the over twenty islands and islets which form the “Sicilian Archipelago”: the Aeolian Islands, classified as “natural heritage of all mankind” by Unesco, the Egadi Islands, the Pelagie Islands, Ustica, Pantelleria, Ciclopi Islets, Stagnone Islets and Mothya .
