Overview
Acireale is a very interesting town about 20kms away from Catania, located on a low volcanic upland 150m above the Ionian Sea. It is mostly renowned for its colourful Carnival celebrations - when huge allegoric floats parade joyfully through the town centre - elegant monuments, active thermal resort - dating back to the Greeks' times - and the vivacious life of its inhabitants. From its several viewpoints you can enjoy a lovely view of the so-called Cyclops' Coast - taking its name from the big black volcanic rocks close to the shores which, according to Homer, would be the stone blocks thrown at Ulysses and his mates by the Cyclop Polyphemus. The Etna volcano is at a stone's throw, and so are the Alcantara Gorges. Taormina is at a short driving distance as well, so the area is definitely strategic to plan excursions to different destinations, whatever your interests are. Whether you wish to spend a sun&sea holiday, or spend your time having cultural or naturalistic excursions, Acireale and Melaverde are quite the right places!

Area details
The volcanic upland on which Acireale lays is at a stone's throw from the Timpa Nature Reserve, while the Cyclops' Coast is a Marine Nature Reserve. The Etna Volcano and the Alcantara Gorges are at a couple of dozens kms distance, so you can have plenty of naturalistic excursions. Catania is surely worth a visit, since its ancient history is magnificently readable in the all-time monuments it is literally crowded of. Taormina is too tempting not to surrender, and you can find it at about 40 kms distance. Syracuse and Noto - with their glorious history and the architectural treasures they swarm with - are a little more distant, but easily reachable. If you want to treat yourself to a wellness break, Acireale Thermal Resort is open all the year round and offers first-class thermal and beauty treatments.
Additional Information
Guests booking at Melaverde in the summer will be freely admitted to the "Faro Sant'Anna", a very exclusive private beach club only 2kms away from the apartment.
Melaverde owners will offer you a daily breakfast from the coffee-bar just outside your doorstep.
