Overview
Pantelleria, an out-of-the-ordinary territory whose inhabitants proudly live their uniqueness of islanders, heirs of different cultures and customs. Here the language is Trapanese Sicilian, but food is half Arab. The typical dish is couscous, prepared mixing vegetables, fish soup and spices in a unique combination all over the Mediterranean. Volcanic soil gives local products a different taste, more intense and sweeter. "Zibibbo" grapes are so sugary and fragrant the wine coming from it is a sort of "nectar". And then the sea. Sapphire blue, of adamantine transparency, abounding in fish and submarine wonders to explore. The coasts are mostly volcanic, black, wild, rugged, and therefore fascinating - as a beautiful shy woman you feel challenged to conquer. Circumnavigating the island, though, you'll discover unexpected green spots, vineyards, terraces of gardens lovingly saved from the fury of the elements - the stormy sea, the salty wind, the dazzling African sunlight, the rocky and waterless soil. And finally the people from Pantelleria - the Panteschi - discreet in their private life, as the Arabs they come from, but also generous with their guests, whom they welcome with respect and curiosity, as it's typical of all Sicilians.
Property details
Pantesco Garden belongs to an elegant residential complex of 7 indipendent "dammusi", old-time rural houses built with volcanic stones, designed to endure the rigours of the island climate. They have small windows - to keep heat insulation as much as possible - and a characteristic white-washed dome on top - to save rainwater and deflect sunlight. Nowadays they are equipped with all modern comforts, for example a reception area, where you'll find dedicated staff ready to provide you with additional services - go shopping and deliver your newspaper, arrange scuba divings, excursions or boat trips, suggest restaurants, bars and so on.
The dammusi interiors consist of a large dining/living room with open-plan kitchen and double sofabed, a double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with tub, and a twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower. Outside you'll find a patio with pergola and "ducchena" - a sort of stone parlour you can find everywhere in Pantelleria - a terrace/solarium, a garden and a private swimming pool. Each "dammuso" has, of course, a gorgeous sea view.
Area details
The property is located in the north-eastern side of the island, in Karuscia district, 2,5kms from Pantelleria village and 200m from the sea. Pantelleria inhabitants are mostly devoted to farming, and produce vegetables, cheese, dairy products and "Zibibbo" grapes - sweet and fragrant - from which the wonderful "Passito di Pantelleria" wine is obtained, with just sun-dried and pressed grapes. From Zibibbo grapes they also produce the so-called "ambrosia" - a sort of honey to spread on seasoned cheese and homemade bread - and a local jam, used to make the typical "pantesco" pastries. If you want to buy a souvenir, we suggest you the renowned Pantesco capers, growing wild everywhere, a real treasure for the locals.
On this island you'll spend your time immersed in an untouched natural scenario, exploring spectacular bays as Cala Levante, the famous Elephant Arch - Pantelleria most representative natural monument - Cala Cinque Denti, Cala Tramontana, the Laghetto delle Ondine, or impressive spots such as Punta Spadillo, Gadir, Khamma, Kattibuali, Balata dei Turchi, or the amazing Specchio di Venere - a hot water lake with volcanic mud. And at sunset the main village will welcome you with its little shops, good fish or pizza restaurants, bars and outdoor discoes, for those of you who love wild nightlife.
