Overview
The Castellammare area in western Sicily is one of the most beautiful places in the island, and once you get there you'll easily agree with us. A wide, welcoming gulf stretches for kilometres with sandy beaches, lapped by a crystal-clear iridescent seawater. The sea colours change every minute, ranging from a light green to a transparent blue, from an intense turquoise to a deep indigo. When you look in the distance, all you see is an endless expanse of calm water, slowly filling up your whole being with an overwhelming peace. The green hills and low mountains all around seem to hug the gulf in a warm embrace, and the effect of this harmonious fusion of earth and water is a sort of magical energy you unknowingly breathe, which slowly recharges your "vital batteries". Some of you may not believe us, and even think we are exaggerating, but if your senses are receptive to the unspoken signals coming from nature, you'll understand what we're talking about. If you're looking for this kind of special atmosphere, choose Renée. We can bet you won't be disappointed.
Property details
Renée is a recently built villa inspired by a definitely post-modern design, which nonetheless uses materials of typican Sicilian tradition. That's why 19th century ceramics from Caltagirone ogle here and there, and tiles and floors are made with handcrafted terracotta, as once was common in old-time country houses. The essentiality of absolute white - typical of Aeolian houses - is counterbalanced with the patches of colours in sofas, curtains, bed linen and wall decorations.
The house is surrounded by a wide garden of Mediterranean plants, hosting a gorgeous swimming-pool and a covered gazebo, and you can enjoy a breathtaking view on Scopello sea both from the panoramic terrace and the garden.
Entering from the back of the property, you'll find a bright kitchen - furnished in typical Sicilian style - and an airy and spacious living/dining room with fireplace, whose double French windows open onto the panoramic terrace. The sleeping quarter is located on the upper floor, and consists of 2 lovely double bedrooms - one of which with splendid sea view and en-suite bathroom with tub - a beautiful twin bedroom, and a bathroom with shower.
Area details
Renée is located in the Fraginesi area, 10min distance from both Castellammare del Golfo and Scopello. In Castellammare you can find all kinds of shops, equipped lidoes, and excellent fish restaurants open all the year round. We suggest you a visit to the characteristic village of Scopello and its scenographic stacks, facing the picturesque "tonnara". Very close are also the splendid Zingaro Nature Reserve - with its amazing turquoise bays and crystal-clear waters - and San Vito Lo Capo - vivacious town with a fabulous white sandy beach, mostly famous for its Cous Cous Fest and other events connected to seafaring life and fish. At a short distance you can also find the stunning Segesta - with its imposing ruins - and the captivating medieval town of Erice - with its spectacular views. The Aegadian Islands and their wonderful bays are easily reachable from Trapani, where we suggest you to visit the elegant historical centre and characteristic salt pans. Furthermore, Easter celebrations in Trapani are particularly interesting: the city streets are crossed by a touching procession of precious wooden 18th century sculptures, representing the Stations of the Cross. Finally, with a longer drive you can reach Marsala and Mazara del Vallo, and visit their interesting historical centres - both boasting monuments ranging from the Phoenician times through the 19th century - and Mothya isle, a former Phoenician stronghold now hosting an extensive archaeological site and a rich museum.
