As we leave the highway behind on our way to Santo Stefano di Camastra, we truly enjoy Aeolian Islands views as we move down deep valleys abounding in thick luxuriant groves. Down, in profound green dales, we still stare at breathtaking Alicudi Island views from a near V-shaped cove. Amazing! Set almost at a broad dale bottom – well protected from weather elements – Il Vignale overlooks stunning hilly landscapes filled generously by the sun’s rays. As we reach the property front gate, we can’t do nothing but wonder: “Is this our sweetest dream or is this for real?” There is no doubt we have just reached a very special place dipped in one of the most beautiful areas of Sicily. Getting out of the car, realizing there would be a lot to explore here both inside and outside, we stare a while at the beautiful front yard. Are you following us?

Marvelous stone flowerbeds adorn the area around the elegant front door while stunning grassy paths lead to a lovely garden with extensive well-kept lawn. The garden setting gets inspiration from the art motif of the close Fiumara D’Arte (River of Art), an amazing outdoor sculpture exhibition set in the surroundings. Artistic mosaics stretch sinuously over the garden, emphasizing an original circular art feature adorned with colossal terracotta and glass garden jars. Plenty of sheltered and unsheltered terraces – fully equipped with deckchairs, sea umbrellas, tables, barbecue, benches, arm-chairs and sofas – are perfect to relax, sunbathe and enjoy delicious al fresco meals prepared with fresh local products.
Leaning out of the garden railings, you literally feel like floating amidst endless olive and orange groves trickling down green valleys all around, while a week breeze gently spreads amazing fragrances all over the garden. Positively impressed by such an enchanting landscape, we cross the front door, unaware that Il Vignale interiors would be way beyond our expectations. Stunning internal stone walls and beautiful terracotta tiles feature an ample living room evoking pleasant atmospheres. Opposite the living room, is a wide bathroom area adorned with elegant Santo Stefano Di Camastra majolica works consisting of a stylish hand basin, two toilets, a shower and a pantry room. Close to the bathroom, a wonderful sitting area with a comfortable corner sofa and fireplace is just perfect to relax and enjoy beautiful landscapes glimpsing through a large French window overlooking a sheltered patio. Crossing the sitting area, a fully equipped kitchen gives to a side hall where an elegant staircase leads directly to the sleeping quarter. Upstairs, a wide corridor leads to a wide double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with shower. A marvelous suite furnished with a romantic four-poster bed has an elegant en-suite bathroom with shower and overlooks Alicudi Island. Moving forward, two comfortable twin bedrooms both with en-suite bathroom with shower are lovely decorated with stylish stone walls and colorful majolica tiles.
Just out of the property, a stone path leads to an amazing pool area rising on a close lower hillside overlooking Aeolian Islands. Enjoy delicious snacks poolside on a comfortable sheltered gazebo or sunbathe lazily on a deckchair in full peace and privacy.

Il Vignale is located in Reitano, close to other picturesque seafront villages like Pettineo, Motta D’Affermo, Mistretta and Santo Stefano di Camastra where Fiumara D’Arte contemporary sculptures are set, as reported by The Telegraph in an impressive photo-reportage. Santo Stefano di Camastra is also very popular for its hand-painted ceramics and colorful majolica, attracting a large number of tourists every year. Aeolian Islands can be easily reached by hydrofoil from Milazzo, while Cefalù with its art, history and beautiful sandy beaches is just at 30 minutes drive. If you love trekking and excursion, Nebrodi Mountains with their stunning green forests and wonderful Byzantine monasteries are at 30 minutes drive.
Additional Information
Fine Sicilian Ogliarola olive variety features the extensive olive groves all around Il Vignale. Olive harvesting and pressing occurs between October and November giving the chance to the guests visiting Sicily during these periods to witness and take part directly into the making of olive oil from branch to bottle.
The swimming pool is open to guests from 7th April to 10th November.
