Overview

How can we describe the endless appeal of Taormina since the remotest times in a few brush-strokes? A breathtaking view on the bluest sea of the Tyrrhenian coast, the imposing presence of snow-clad Etna looming above, innumerable colours from the gardens on the surrounding hills, an ubiquitous sea breeze, fragrances of flowers and plants everywhere, just to mention the natural attractions. And what to say of its spectacular monuments, or the liveliness of its cultural events? Can we dare call this privileged spot a sort of “God’s smile”? Yes, we definitely think so. And in the heart of this special place, Villa Parmina cannot fail in contributing its own unforgettable sensations with its blessed location, the comforts it offers, the ability to tickle your fancy with its additional services. Can you imagine a cooking lesson or a pizza-making session with this scenery around? Wow! Your holiday here cannot be but extraordinary.

Property details

From the back entrance you’ll be admitted to the exterior “living” space with its wonderful swimming-pool. Naxos’s beach and the Ionian coast are on the background, and in the barbecue area a wood-burning oven waits for funny pizza-making sessions. On the left, a pretty kitchen furnished with handmade pieces and boasting a lively majolica floor, that you’ll admire in different versions and patterns in all rooms. From the entrance, a short corridor leads you to a bathroom with shower and a quiet single room, opening on a bright furnished veranda. On the right, the spacious multicoloured parlour with its stylish furniture and numerous windows, letting a flood of lights and colours in from the garden and the sea. No doubt you’ll be fascinated by the curious little objects this room is filled with. Here you have satellite Tv and internet connection. At the end of the corridor, a quiet light-blue double bedroom whispers of sunny drowsy afternoons and cool nights. Taking your time in the en-suite bathroom with tub will be a special pleasure. If you credit colour therapy, you’ll surely find this place particularly “healthy”. From a spiral staircase next to the main entrance you’ll be admitted to the ground floor. At the foot of the staircase, an original veranda furnished with a beautiful carved stone table and a long stone sofa. From here you can enter a triple colourful bedroom with stylish modern furniture and - in succession - a green classical style double bedroom. Both rooms share a bathroom with shower. Further ahead, you’ll find a second lively coloured double bedroom, with en-suite bathroom with shower. Entering the garden from the elegant veranda you’ll be welcomed by a pretty “stone parlour” with tidy flowerbeds all around. From here you can start exploring the garden, crowded with vegetation and boasting shadowy spots and funny hideouts. A few stone steps, lost in the green, will lead you to the house top, where you’ll enjoy a spectacular postcard view of the Etna volcano in all its imposing beauty.

Area details

From the property you can reach Giardini Naxos, Mazzarò and Letojanni beaches, or plan excursions to Mount Etna and the pretty villages on its slopes. The Alcantara Gorges and their spectacular rocks are close enough as well. The Aeolian Islands are across the sea, a few kilometres away. The Nebrodi Park, its forests and tasty local products are easily reachable through the highway, as well as Catania, Acireale and the Cyclops Cliffs. So, you see, you’ll be spoiled for choice! Taormina and Castelmola are round the corner for a quiet walk, a cultural event, a visit to the monuments or a drink. You cannot miss the famous water-ices or the excellent fish restaurants, and we also recommend a visit to the souvenir shops for a precious ceramic vase, a lace or a coral jewel.

Additional Information

If you want to venture in a cooking course or a pizza-making session with professional chefs, you just have to ask and we’ll arrange everything. Can you imagine a cooking lesson with the Mt. Etna and the Ionian coast on the background?

Feedback from clients staying at Parmina

  • Jayne Barr | August 2011

We thought Villa Parmina was fantastic: wonderful house, plenty of room for 8 people, fabulous pool and gardens, great , uninterrupted views of Taormina town, the sea and Mt Etna. Definitely lived up to our expectations. Beautiful country, too. Furthermore, Masoud, the housekeeper was discreet, friendly and helpful - a pleasure to have around.

  • Craig Thompson | May 2011

We had an amazing time in Sicily and the Villa Parmina was a highlight. We arrived a little early at the villa however Gabriele (property manager) was already there and was able to help us move in and get settled. The weather was perfect (we were so lucky), the setting spectacular and the villa very comfortable. We especially loved the gardens, the pool and the wood burning pizza oven which we made use of with the help of Gabriele who arranged to have local pizza maker cook for us. It was truly a trip of a lifetime and we can hardly wait to return to Sicily.
Thanks for your help with the bookings and arrangements. Your website was great at giving us a real sense of what the villa looked like and the facilities it offered. As well your travel package was very helpful in orientating ourselves in Taormina. I would not hesitate to recommend your company to my friends and family.

  • Complaint by Catarina Burkhard | July 2010

Catarina Burkhard: "Our experience with SoloSicily and the owners of Villa Parmina was quite unpleasant.
Apparently, your definition of "luxury" is very different from ours. Villa Parmina is poorly maintained and supplied. In fact, the worst of any villa we have ever rented in Sicily. No basic supplies, the insect infestation in the kitchen, and a non-working refrigerator, to name just a few of the issues. Last minute cancellation of our first morning breakfast, which had been confirmed in writing by you-only to be told that if we expect service on Sunday we have no "common sense!"
Topping the unpleasant list, however, was the uncouth and bizarre behavior we encountered when trying to get some of said issues resolved.Arguing with us for two days straight about whether or not we were properly operating the refrigerator (!) and trying to put off even looking at it until after Mr. Gabriele's exams on Tuesday?
Which probably would have meant no replacement until Wednesday? That would have left us with no refrigerator for over half of our stay. Completely unacceptable. Communicating with both of you was bizarre, to say the least. Why pretend, Mr. Gabriele, that you are not the owner of the property, when our voucher clearly states that you are? And why pretend that your brother, sent to tell us that the refrigerator is just fine and our rotten food just a figment of our imaginations, is an appliance repairman?"

Answer from soloSicily: "This review is mostly false and unfair. It has been published by us only to show respect, professionality and transparency to the client.
All of the "problems" occurred have been sorted out soon and efficently.
    - A "welcome-pack" with basic food and drinks provided plus a bottle of champagne.
    - No mosquitos whatsoever in the kitchen unless the client (as happened) leave the food (ex: brad crumbs etc...) outside during the night.
    - The fridge has been replaced within 48hr from the problem occurred. Problem generated by the client who disposed to much food into the fridge (1 week shopping for 8 people all in once) freezing the air inside the fridge itself. (the cold air couldn't come out the fridge because of too much food staffed inside). We didn't charge the client for the damage caused.
    - Breakfast promptly served except on Sunday when there was not staff available for working in a private self-catering villa in peak season. (The client has asked for breakfast service only a few days before arrival date)
    - Gabriele is not the property owner but the owner's son who manage the house for soloSicily. The voucher is a standard document. Being Gabriele busy with his university exams we sent to the villa his brother with a professional to fix the refrigerator (afterwords changed as broken by the client and certfied by the technician)

  • David Watson | October 2009

We had a wonderful time at Villa Parmina - a lovely house, great location, very well equipped and furnished and excellent weather - compared with here anyway!

  • Mike Markham | June 2008

We had a wonderful stay at the villa. The owners were very nice people. We would highly recommend the property to anyone.
