Wrong! We have an ancient castle with all kinds of treasures you might expect to find in a self-respecting castle right here in Sicily, and you don't have to climb mountains or cross woods to get there! It's on the sea, and very easy to reach! Who would have thought that?
Property details
This magnificent castle, built in several phases since the 14th century, is surrounded by a beautiful and exotic palm trees grove, and can boast 2 sandy private beaches. The interiors, as you may expect, are furnished and decorated with antique pieces and family relics, including an imposing collection of hunting trophies.
You enter the castle - which develops on four levels - from the top floor, due to its terraced position on the sea, and to reach the garden and the private beaches you have to go down a really fascinating internal stairway, a sort of mysterious secret passage.
The top floor of the castle is occupied by Appartamento Falconara, consisting of a large dining room, an elegant and comfortable living room, a small kitchen and 7 stylish double bedrooms, all with en-suite bathroom and sea view.
Going downstairs, you'll find several intimate sitting corners, a wonderful panoramic terrace facing the sea, 1 dining room, 2 living rooms, 2 parlours, a library, a kitchen and 2 bedrooms with en-suite bathroom. Going further downstairs you'll find 5 double bedrooms and 1 twin bedroom with en-suite bathroom, and 1 single bedroom adjoining its own bathroom. All bedrooms enjoy a splendid sea view.
Outside the castle, surrounded by the palm trees grove, you'll find a garden with a lovely Mediterranean gazebo, where you will enjoy relaxing alfresco moments, maybe facing the sea at dusk or under the stars...
Area details
This property is the perfect place if you fancy a holiday mixing relax, sea & sun, culture and good food. The castle is located near Licata. The Valley of the Temples in Agrigento is at 52kms distance, and with a longer drive you could reach Piazza Armerina and visit its splendid Villa del Casale, with its 3500 sq.m. of Roman mosaics dating back to the Imperial Age. If you feel like venturing in a longer trip, you can reach Caltagirone and visit its Regional Museum of Ceramics.
Additional Information
The most ancient portion of Castello Falconara is the big square tower built in the 14th century and used by former owners to grow hunting falcons, which explains its name. When the tower was built is unknown, but we know for sure that Ugone from Santa Pau, descendant of the Spanish Adamara family, was presented with it by King Martin from Aragon in 1392, for its support during the fight against the rival would-be kings of Sicily.
