Overview

To choose this property you really must be very special travellers, with a hawk's soul and a passion for solitary hides concealing treasures of history and magic. Once you get to our owner's ancestral home, exhaling quiet nobleness from every single stone, you'll soon be changed into an old-time powerful Sicilian, the kind who could boast lands to dominate and a free spirit to live a proud life, mindful of past glories still hovering high. Walking through the characteristic winding up-and-down streets of Caltabellotta you’ll surely perceive the true Sicilian pride for centuries-old traditions, the infinite fascination of inaccessible peaks, the poetry of burning sunsets, the magic power of stones and ruins to tell ancient stories and evoke unique atmospheres. Take your time to taste the delicious local products, the tasty Sicilian meat, the renowned red wine and Caltabellotta pride and glory: its first quality olive oil, the primary economic resource here

Property details

From the left entrance to the house, a few steps will lead you to a mezzanine with double bed and en-suite bathroom with shower. Going back down, you will be welcomed by a modern fully equipped kitchen and a bright dining room, overlooking the picturesque town roofs and the wide valley underneath. A cool refuge in the hot Sicilian lunchtimes, with no noise from TV on the background! The sober neoclassical ceilings, the antique furniture and airy atmosphere of the following rooms are soon going to bewitch you. Adjoining the dining room, a peaceful XIX century game room, and then the very heart of the house, a coloured living room with ethnic furniture, satellite TV and a nice brick fireplace also working as stove. From its elegant columned terrace you will enjoy the most spectacular view you can imagine: brick-coloured rooftops, pointed bell towers and, beyond, endless expanses of land and sea: central Sicily and the Mediterranean coast. On a clear day you can even see Africa, and at night a striking circle of lighted villages and the starry sky above will leave you breathless. And very cool! The air is crisp here! Further ahead, you'll find the reading room, with stylish bookshelves, leather sofas and satellite TV (so here's more room to relax!), and a sober and quiet parlour with 1940's furniture. At the end of the long corridor leading to the right entrance of the house, a few steps will lead you to a colourful double bedroom with en-suite bathroom. Going back, on the opposite side of the corridor you’ll find a twin-bedded double room, a bathroom with tub, a double bedroom, and a 1940's study to use as internet corner, if you wish. You can also find a laundry room, next to the left entrance of the property.

Area details

There’s so much to see in Caltabellotta! The ruins of the Norman castle, the Sican necropolis, ancient churches, characteristic streets, panoramic spots and, at a short distance, the picturesque S. Anna village, S. Cono Caves, the woods on the Sican Mountains, the Sosio river area, and the Mediterranean Sea. The colourful Sciacca is a few km away, with its historical charm, fish restaurants and nice shops. Rocco Forte’s Golf Resort and its 18 holes course is a short drive away. Should you wish to bath in the warm Mediterranean waters and tan a little bit, you can choose the close S. Giorgio beach, or Eraclea Minoa, with its archaeological site and gorgeous white cliffs, or drive as far as Selinunte or Agrigento, and grab the occasion to enjoy a cultural trip among imposing Greek Doric temples before or after a refreshing swim.

Additional Information

The property can boast being a movie set in 1987, when a few scenes of “The Sicilian” by Michael Cimino were shot in Caltabellotta. Photos of that event are visible on the walls of the house, so if you like the idea of being in the same place where Christopher Lambert played the role of Sicilian bandit Salvatore Giuliano, enjoy the thrill! You can even buy a movie on the same subject visiting the section Local Culture and Traditions on this website, and clicking on the Island in Writing and Celluloid dedicated link.

Feedback from clients staying at Corte Regina Sibilla

  • Renee Geluk | April 2010

Even if you had not send us an e-mail I would have contacted you to let you know what a fantastic week we had in Caltabellotta. The house was much more that we expected and the owners Dore and Miranda Terrasi (property owners) were the best host and hostess you can ever have. I have to read the description again but I think it does not do it justice. It is hard to describe what you will find in Corte Regina Sibilla. What a lot of history and so full of antiques. I hope they will get the "right" visitors" who will appreciate the house and its content. Since we were there during Easter we experienced a lot of celebrations which are unique for Sicily I understood.
We loved the Island and did quite a bit of driving on the Island. Great history there and lots to see and do. The information you provided in your travel package was very helpful.
The directions you gave us were fantastic. We had no trouble getting to Sciacca. What a surprise when you come from the Sciacca side. From the other way you can see the town from afar. It was fantastic how it was "glued" to the rock.ll in all it was a great experience and enjoyed by the four of us.
Your website is very clear and very well done. I still like going back to it and look at your "properties" even though we may never get back there. Keep up the good work!
    Thank you again
