Solena is a very romantic apartment in the heart of Taormina, at a short distance from the main street and the most popular monuments in town. The owner has carefully supervised the house restoration, using only handcrafted Sicilian materials: lava stone slates to cover the staircase steps, Sicilian terracotta floors, two charming handmade ceramic sinks for the kitchen, well-matched modern and antique furniture of sober elegance, bathroom tiles made by local craftsmen. He even had a piped-in stereo system installed in every room, so you can listen to your favourite music everywhere.
The house develops on 2 levels: on the ground floor you'll find a bright dining/living room with rustic furniture, a lovely open-plan kitchen - decorated with Sicilian handcrafted ceramic tiles - a comfortable sofa bed, and a pretty bathroom with shower. On the upper floor, you'll find an elegant classical-style double bedroom, with a charming little balcony overlooking the alley, and a bathroom with tub.

During your stay you'll discover a thousand treasures in Taormina: ancient monuments, characteristic spots, picturesque craftsmen' shops, wonderful public gardens, lots of terraces facing the sea and the Etna. We, nonetheless, suggest you a visit to Castelmola - a small village above Taormina where you can buy tasty local products - and to Giardini Naxos, Mazzarò and the Isola Bella on the coast - where you can enjoy a vivacious beach life, especially in the summer. If you wish to visit one of the little villages on the volcano slopes, let us suggest you a few: Nicolosi, the so called "gate to the Etna", is the starting point for all guided excursions to the volcano craters and top, and there you can find skiing facilities and slopes very popular during the winter season. In Bronte you can visit the beautiful Admiral Nelson's Castle. Randazzo is a lovely town whose monuments bear traces of the peaceful cohabitation of 3 peoples with different religions and cultures. Castiglione di Sicilia hosts a splendid 18-holes golf course with the Etna on the background. As an exciting naturalistic excursion we recommend the Alcantara Gorges with their fascinating canyons, and - if you don't want to miss anything - a walk through the baroque monuments in Catania and Acireale.
