Overview
A peaceful countryside retreat for a couple or small family looking for an away-from-it-all, restful break. Located in Scopello, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area including trips to Palermo, the beach and the Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve. Villa owner, Renata, goes out of her way to ensure that your stay is nothing short of perfect.
Property
Set high on a hillside with views across a rural landscape to the sea, the villa is simply furnished but bright and practical, with majolica tiles and vivid blue furnishings and linen.
Outside: A covered patio area, with outdoor table and chairs, and next to the entrance to the villa, offers welcome shade at mealtimes and a second sheltered area, at the back of the house, provides an alternative spot for breakfast. Chill out on the terraces around the beautiful infinity pool, or in the hammock under the shade of the carob tree and gaze out across rolling Sicilian countryside that leads down to the sea.
Inside: The house is very charming, with beamed ceilings, white-washed walls and plenty of natural daylight. Enter the house directly into the living room, modestly furnished with two striking blue sofas in front of the large window, and a separate dining area with table and chairs. A small rustic-style kitchen, with lovely Sicilian majolica tiles, conveniently leads directly out to the dining area. A double and twin bedroom, and an attractively-tiled bathroom (with shower), are all on the same floor as the living room and kitchen.
Area
Local Sights
Beautiful Scopello is also close by. The village itself is quite small, but has some good restaurants, several of which have fantastic sea views. Scopello is built around a 16th Century baglio. You can find several boutiques, bars and restaurants within the baglio and it is a great place to have an ice cream, enjoy an aperitivo or relax over a delicious lunch. The coast below is particularly beautiful with many great spots for swimming. Most famous is the Tonnara bay, a now privately-owned old tuna fishery. Swimming in these crystal-clear waters is an absolute delight. The nearest shops for basics, and a sweet pebbly beach can be found at Guidaloca.
The lively beachside town of Castellammare del Golfo is not far from the villa. This town is set in a lovely bay and has a great beach, with free or managed areas, and some fun restaurants and bars. During the summer months the town is a great place to soak up the sun and watch the locals on their nightly passeggiata from one of the chic bars found in the port.
For even more pristine beaches and lovely scenery, head to the nearby Lo Zingaro Nature Reserve. The reserve is completely car-free and includes a 7 km stretch of wonderful coastline between Scopello and San Vito Lo Capo. Lo Zingaro is perfect for a day out, and there are many coastal and inland tracks and spectacular beaches with turquoise water to discover.
If you love archaeological sites, you can't go wrong by visiting Segesta. You will find remains of an astonishingly well-preserved Doric temple, as well as a delightful Greek theatre with stunning views over the rolling countryside.
To enjoy another great view head west to Erice: a medieval hill-top town with a magical atmosphere and spectacular views over Trapani, Marsala and the Aegadian Islands. Reach the town by cable-car from Trapani or drive up the spectacular winding road.
Visit Trapani in Easter and catch a glimpse of the famous "I Misteri di Trapani": a procession showing the Passion of Christ that is followed by thousands of people throughout the streets of the town.
Sicily's capital is not too far from Casa Blu and is well worth a visit. Palermo is a vivacious city, with a seemingly never-ending list of things to see, do and eat. The city has an extraordinary history and an exciting present. It should not be missed!
Local Experiences
Being so close to the beautiful Tyrrhenian Sea is an absolute joy, so why not make the most of it and hire a private boat? Or, if you'd prefer, you could enjoy a guided boat tour to the Aegadian Islands. There are also boat excursions around Scopello, Lo Zingaro and Castellammare del Golfo which are all wonderful days out.
Palermo has a fabulous food culture, and so when visiting you could take part in a guided foodie tour of Palermo. You'll see vibrant markets and taste some classic Palermitan flavours. It's a great day out for anyone with an interest in Palermo's vibrant gastronomic culture.
For a true taste of Scopello's own gastronomic culture, try Pane Cunzatu. This is the local area's most famous sandwich. Tomatoes, black olives, capers, pecorino and oregano and basil. It is the taste of Sicily and is delicious!
Wine-lovers will be spoilt for choice by the fantastic Sicilian wines that are on offer. To really understand Sicilian wine culture - and taste a few wines - you could book a tour in a local winery.
If cooking is your passion then you could always book a cooking class at a local cookery school, or even have one in the villa. Our cooking experiences are a great way to take a taste of Sicily home with you. If you would prefer to have someone else do the cooking for you then we also offer an in-villa cooking service.
In September San Vito lo Capo - a nearby beachside town - hosts its annual Cous Cous Festival. The scent of cous cous fills the streets of the town, as vendors from all over the world come together to celebrate this wonderful dish. Expect cooking demonstrations, tasting opportunities, live music and a great atmosphere.
The pool is open to guests from March 14th to November 14th.
Outside of this period the pool can be opened only if you book at least two weeks.
Road conditions and hire car suggestions: Countryside roads in Sicily are often unpaved and bumpy. For this reason we strongly suggest to rent a car with high ground clearance.
A mini golf facility is located at 5 min drive from the house.
Casa Blu is a pet friendly property.

September 2019
Once again we have had the most perfect “escapism” for a week. Returning to Casa Blu has been the best, the weather perfect for enjoying the views and reading a good book. Daily walks from Casa Blu to the bakery in Scopello justified the bread and cakes bought from the pattisserie, on the way back we bought local wine (fantastico) by the litre from Scopello market and dined on fine meats bought at the deli carefully blackened on the barbecue. We planned to do all sorts but the week has gone too fast, until next time!
