As captivating inside as out and with glorious views over a landscape of rolling hills and deep valleys, Il Vignale is an excellent choice for a group looking to blend beach-life and exploring local sights with a countryside base. Home-grown fresh vegetables, courtesy of the charming villa owners, and olive oil produced from Il Vignale’s own olives trees all add to the experience.

Il Vignale is a true testament to its owners, with both the villa and the garden equally captivating.

Outside: Throughout the garden, shaded terraces and sunny spots are furnished with deckchairs, large umbrellas, tables, chairs, benches, armchairs and sofas, providing endless opportunities to sit peacefully and enjoy the wonderful view over the surrounding countryside. A colourful mosaic path snakes around the garden amidst huge terracotta urns and glass jars, inspired by the nearby Fiumara D’Arte (River of Art) collection.

The infinity pool has large decked areas on two sides, providing ample space for sunbathing, and is situated slightly apart from the villa and lawned garden, accessed via a gravel path. Enjoy poolside snacks under the shelter of a gazebo with the hazy form of Alicudi, one of the seven Aeolian Islands, visible in the distance.

Inside: Entrance to the villa is via an outdoor covered terrace that extends the width of the villa and looks out over the large well-kept lawn.

Stone walls and burnished terracotta tiles add character to a large living/dining room which has an open fireplace and wonderful views through a large French window that opens on to a covered patio. The dining-room, which has exposed brick walls and a magnificent ceiling created from a series of curved arches, is a fabulous spot for evening meals if you visit during the cooler months.

The kitchen is extremely attractive with marble-topped work surfaces and high quality utensils, a real highlight for people who love to cook. There is a large bathroom on the ground floor, decorated with majolica ceramics from nearby Santo Stefano di Camastra, with two toilets, a shower and separate storage room.

On the first floor, the master bedroom has a magnificent four-poster bed and attractive en suite bathroom with shower, and French windows look out over the island of Alicudi. There are three more double bedrooms on this floor and all with an en suite bathroom with a shower, original stone walls and colourful majolica tiles. There are two more double bedrooms on the second floor, both with an en suite bathroom with bath. There is also a quadruple bedroom (one double bed, two single beds) on this floor with its own bathroom with shower.

A separate guest house for two provides the ideal solution for groups where one couple prefers some additional privacy. The guesthouse has a double bed, a beautiful shower with gorgeous Sicilian tiles (in the bedroom itself) and its own bathroom.

Local Sights

The closest town to Il Vignale is Santo Stefano di Camastra, famous for the production of beautiful ceramics. The little town has some lovely shops, great restaurants and wonderful views of the sea. From the town you can catch a glimpse of Aeolian Islands.

For a larger town, with a more buzzing atmosphere, make for Cefalù - a 40 minute drive from the villa. Cefalù has a fantastic cathedral, charming streets, a super beach and a fun atmosphere. It is one of Sicily's top summer destinations.

Il Vignale is also very close to the Nebrodi Mountain Range, a nature reserve with fantastic scenery. You'll be amazed by the lush vegetation and forests and great array of wildlife. The Nebrodi Mountains also produce some fabulous food, especially cured meats and cheeses.

Local Experiences

You will certainly enjoy the sight of the Aeolian Islands from your pool at Il Vignale, so why not visit? The Aeolian Islands are very chic and are the summer destination for some of Italy's most stylish visitors. Make your way to nearby Milazzo where regular boats leave for the islands. Enjoy a day on Lipari or perhaps a boat trip around Stromboli - a live and active volcano!

If you are keen on contemporary art then you should certainly visit the Fiumara d'Arte collection of sculptures. Located near Tusa (not far from the villa) this is a collection of sculptures set within the local countryside. It is a very unique collection, and is well worth a visit.

There's a wealth of activities available for adventure-lovers. The natural scenery is spectacular in the area and we can help you organise a variety of excursions such as horse riding in the Madonie Mountains or hiking through the Nebrodi Mountains.

The north of Sicily also has many cultural highlights that should not be missed. See the beauty of Monreale, Palermo and Cefalù with a guided tour. You will learn lots about this fascinating island and its intriguing past.

Il Vignale is a paradise for food-lovers, as the estate produces its own olive oil, fruit and vegetables. You can also enjoy a home-cooked meal, prepared by a local chef, with our Book a Cook service. Take the night off and enjoy an authentic Sicilian meal.

The pool is open to guests from April 11th to October 24th.

Road conditions and hire car suggestions: Countryside roads in Sicily are often unpaved and bumpy. For this reason we strongly suggest to rent a car with high ground clearance. The road leading to the villa is very narrow and has several twists and turns and is not suitable for wide vehicles.

The extensive olive groves surrounding Il Vignale feature the fine Ogliarola olive variety. Olive harvesting and pressing occurs between October and November and guests who visit during this period will have the opportunity to take part directly in the production of olive oil from branch to bottle.
